Lenten Reflection for Mon 2/18/2013

Psalm am: 41, 52
pm: 44 Deuteronomy 8:11-18
Hebrews 2:11-18 John 2:1-12

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors,as he is doing today.  —-Deuteronomy 8:11-18

As people of faith, it is amazing how quickly we forget the
role God plays in our lives. This passage is mindful of when we forget
to give God just due: when we have done well. When our
freezers are full of food, we have a nice home and a good-paying
job, the kids are healthy and doing well in school, we tend to survey
our lives in terms of how well we’ve done. The Deuteronimist
reminds us not to forget how it came to be that we’ve ‘done so
well’. We are reminded that it is God who gave us the ‘power’ to
do well, and that we owe God the remembrance for having taken
good care of us.
