Prayers of the People

Prayed at St Paul‘s on 2 December 2012

Following Form 1

Christ in Glory

Christ in Glory

One:We seek the mighty God
in the most unlikely places
as a child in a stable,
and in an empty tomb.
May God hear these prayers,
which come from the unlikely corners of our lives.

With all our heart and with our entire mind, let us pray to the Lord, saying, “Lord have mercy.”

For the peace of the whole world, in the places familiar to us and the places we fear going, for the welfare of the holy Church of God in all its forms, and for the unity of all peoples, both those we love and those we fear, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For our Bishops Katherine and Nathan, for our Priest Kate, intern Chap, Wardens Sarah and Mark, Music Director Fred, and for all the clergy and people, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For our President Barak, Congress and Senate, Supreme Court and for the leaders of the nations and for all in authority, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For this city of Harrisburg, Mayor Linda and City Council, for our Uptown Neighborhood, every city and community and for those who live in them let us pray to the Lord.

All:Lord have mercy.

One: For the good earth which God has given us, its waters, soils, minerals, plants, animals and all its beauty which sustain us; and for the wisdom and will to conserve it, let us pray to the Lord.

All:Lord have mercy.

One: For those who travel on land, on water, in the air, and in outer space, especially those who pilot our planes, captain our ships, drive our trains, buses and cabs, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For the aged and ill, especially those listed in our bulletin, for the widowed and orphaned, especially those who are left so by violence, for the sick, suffering, and addicted, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For all children who are abandoned, abused, neglected, pressed into military service, prostitution or other forms of exploitation, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For the poor and the oppressed around the world and across the street, for the unemployed and the destitute in our own community and across the globe, for prisoners and captives both those justly and unjustly imprisoned and for all who remember them, care for them, and work for their release, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For all who have died in the hope of the resurrection, and all the departed, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: For deliverance from all danger, violence, oppression, abuse and degradation, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: That we may end our lives in faith and hope, without suffering and without reproach, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord have mercy.

One: Defend us, deliver us, and in thy compassion protect us, O Lord by thy grace.

In the communion of Paul and Barnabas and of all the saints in every time and place, let us commend ourselves and one another, and all our lives to Christ our God.

Give us ears to hear, O God,
and eyes to watch,
that we may know your presence in our midst
during this holy season of joy
as we anticipate the coming of Jesus Christ. Amen
