PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Prayed at St Paul on Sun 23 September 2012

Based on Form III, Book of Common Prayer, page 387

One: Friends in Christ,
God invites us to hold the needs of our sisters and brothers
as dear to us as our own needs.
Loving our neighbors as ourselves,
we offer our thanksgivings and our petitions
on behalf of the church and the world.

Good and Loving God, we pray for your holy catholic Church;

All: That we all may be one.

One: Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you;

All: That your Name may be glorified by all people.

One: We pray for Katherine and Nathan our bishops, Kate our priest, and Anne our deacon and all bishops, priests, and deacons;

All: That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

One: We pray for our president Barak, our governor Tom, our Mayor Linda, all candidates for office, and all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world;

All: That there may be justice and peace on the earth.

One: Give us grace to practice mercy rather than judgment, compassion rather than self-righteousness and to do your will in all we undertake;

All: That our works may find favor in your sight.

One: Have compassion on those listed in our bulletin, those we name before you (out loud or in our hearts ) who suffer from sickness, addiction, abuse, grief or trouble;

All: That they may be delivered from their distress.

One: God of abundant faithfulness, have compassion on all those who are struggling to find their path in life, who are in debt, despair, or have no hope;

All: That they may be delivered from their distress.

One: Give to the departed eternal rest;

All: Let light perpetual shine upon them.

One: We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy:

All: May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom.

One: We praise you and give you thanks, O God, for all that we have: our health and the health of our families, for a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in, food to eat, the sunshine and rain – remembering that ALL good things come from you.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others, out loud or in our hearts.

Hear our prayers, God of power,
and through the ministry of your Son
free us from the grip of the tomb,
that we may desire you as the fullness of life
and proclaim your saving deeds to all the world.

Amen.
